Gabon’s High Authority for Communication lifted the suspension of social media on 24 October 2026, after it had been in place for nearly nine months. The decision follows the adoption of three ordinances regulating platforms and reforming the digital communications framework, according to Gabonclic.

Gabon’s High Authority for Communication (HAC) decided on Saturday 24 October to lift immediately the suspension of social media, imposed nearly nine months earlier. The decision was taken at an extraordinary plenary session chaired by Germain Ngoyo Moussavou, according to a statement from the HAC.

The suspension was decreed on 1 February 2026. On 26 February, the government adopted three ordinances on the use of social media, amendments to the 2016 Communications Code and reform of the HAC. The ban is being lifted as the HAC now considers the legal framework governing the use of online platforms to be complete.

The block had penalised content creators, community managers, communications agencies and businesses that use the platforms for their activities. The HAC says reopening them ends the restrictions imposed on professional users and their clients, according to its statement.
