Eli Junior Kroupi, the French Bournemouth striker of Ivorian origin, confirms he wants to represent France rather than Ivory Coast or Portugal. The currently injured 20-year-old hopes to regain his form to convince France coach Zinédine Zidane, according to an interview with DAZN.

Bournemouth’s Ivorian striker Eli Junior Kroupi reaffirmed on Saturday his ambition to play for France, despite being eligible for both countries. “I have always played for France at youth level. I was born in France, I started playing football in France. Naturally, playing for France is the objective,” he told DAZN.

The 20-year-old former Lorient player hopes to convince Zinédine Zidane, France’s head coach, to give him his first senior call-up. Portugal had also approached the striker before the 2026 World Cup because of his family links to the country, but Kroupi ruled out that option. Currently injured, he must first return to his best level, according to Africatopsports.
