Egyptian military expert Mohamed al-Shahawy says any Egyptian intervention to defend Saudi Arabia would depend on the threat and the needs set out by Riyadh. He said the forces deployed could come from the air force, navy or ground forces, according to Egypt Independent.

Egypt would determine the nature of any military assistance to Saudi Arabia according to Riyadh’s needs and an assessment of the situation, said Major General Mohamed al-Shahawy, an expert at the Egyptian Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies, according to Egypt Independent.

The capabilities considered could be air, land or naval forces, but the choice cannot be determined in advance. These remarks come as Saudi Arabia faces attacks by Houthi authorities amid the war in Yemen.
