Burkina Faso and Türkiye held the first session of their bilateral political consultations in Ankara on 20 October, focusing on several areas of cooperation, according to the Burkinabè daily Sidwaya. The Burkinabè delegation was led by Ambassador Hermann Yirigouin Toé, secretary-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Turkish delegation by Volkan Isikci, director-general for West and Central Africa at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions covered education, vocational training, health, agriculture, industry, livestock farming, mining and energy. Toé praised Turkish support for training Burkinabè specialists to carry out kidney transplants and called for an emergency medical visa channel for patients and their companions.
The Burkinabè official also called on Ankara to develop partnerships with the AES countries — Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger — particularly to combat terrorism. Volkan Isikci reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Burkina Faso on security, sovereignty and the defence of its territorial integrity.
The session is part of a series of Burkinabè diplomatic contacts, already marked by the resumption of cooperation dialogue with Germany on 2 October and preparations for new agreements with Russia, announced on 4 October.
