The Kitwe municipality in Zambia ordered street vendors to leave urban roads on 23 October 2026 after a case of cholera was detected in the city. The measure aims to limit the spread of the disease, Patrick Kambita, Kitwe’s town clerk, said, according to Diggers.
The infected person is believed to have come from another district. Patrick Kambita said that markets had enough selling space, drinking water and sanitation facilities to accommodate traders, while the municipal council had strengthened hygiene and trade-control measures, according to Diggers.
