Fifty-nine public figures, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Denis Mukwege, are challenging university appointments made by the AFC-M23 in the provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu. They sent an open letter to the authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, AFC-M23 officials and higher education stakeholders, Mediacongo reports.

The signatories include university professors, doctors, journalists, writers, magistrates and legal experts. They invoke Framework Law No. 14/004 of 11 February 2014 on national education.
