About 10,000 domestic animals are to receive free rabies vaccinations in Man, Ivory Coast, from 22 to 28 October 2026. Fixed stations and mobile teams are being deployed under a national plan aimed at eliminating human deaths from rabies by 2030, according to AIP.
Around 10,000 domestic animals will be vaccinated against rabies free of charge in Man, western Ivory Coast, from 22 to 28 October 2026, Dady Séry Kpa, representing the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, announced, according to the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP).
Vaccination stations will operate from 8am to 5pm and mobile teams will visit neighbourhoods. The campaign will also involve capturing and vaccinating stray dogs, as well as awareness-raising among animal owners, according to the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources.
The operation is part of the integrated rabies control plan adopted in 2018, which aims to eliminate by 2030 human deaths caused by transmission of the disease by dogs. Authorities said the programme has already enabled more than 140 outbreaks to be treated, more than 800,000 dogs to be vaccinated and more than 7,000 exposed people to receive free care.
Forty-five human deaths linked to rabies were recorded in Ivory Coast between January and October 2026, according to health authorities. Dady Séry Kpa said the national strategy is based in particular on animal vaccination, stray-dog management, awareness-raising and care for exposed people.
