Priest Joseph Mary Ssebunya called on Ugandan parents to avoid family conflicts that can make children fear returning home. During a Mass at Namugongo Girls’ Boarding Primary School, he also urged couples experiencing difficulties to remain civil in front of their children, according to the Daily Monitor.
Priest Joseph Mary Ssebunya, director of youth and children for the Archdiocese of Kampala, called on parents to avoid family conflicts that make children afraid to return home. He was speaking on 23 October at a blessing Mass organised for Primary Seven pupils at Namugongo Girls’ Boarding Primary School, in Wakiso District, according to the Daily Monitor.
The school is to present 209 candidates for primary school-leaving examinations scheduled for 3 and 4 November 2026. Joseph Mary Ssebunya asked couples in conflict to remain civil, particularly during school activities and in the presence of their children, whom he urged not to involve in their disputes.
The school’s head teacher, Josephine Nabwami, said that 80% of children’s discipline is developed within the family. She asked parents to spend more time with their daughters during the forthcoming holiday and to monitor their use of phones, tablets and television, as well as the places where they will be staying.
