Turkish Airlines assesses Equatorial Guinea airports to resume flights

Turkish Airlines is assessing the potential of the airports in Bata, Mongomeyen and Malabo ahead of resuming flights to Equatorial Guinea. The airline inspected airport facilities and met Equatorial Guinean officials during a visit focused on developing air services, according to Ahora EG.

A delegation from Turkish Airlines inspected the Bata international airports, Mongomeyen and Malabo, examining in particular the check-in, security, baggage handling, boarding and ground-handling facilities in Bata, Ahora EG reports. The visit follows a meeting in Turkey between Equatorial Guinea's Minister of State for Transport, Telecommunications and Civil Aviation, Honorato Evita Oma, and Turkish Airlines executive director Ahmet Olmuşur.

In Mongomeyen, the delegation also visited the Equatorial Guinea Aeronautical School and a hangar intended for aircraft repair and maintenance. The government is exploring with Turkish Airlines and the Turkish flight school AYJET Flight School possibilities for cooperation to reactivate and certify the institution, according to Ahora EG.

The Transport Ministry also wants to develop regional services for pilot training, maintenance and aviation logistics from these facilities. The strategy aims to increase the economic use of investments made in the airports and make Equatorial Guinea a leading aviation hub in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), according to Ahora EG.
