Sudan opens aviation fuel imports to national companies

Sudan’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum is allowing qualified national companies to import aviation fuel and fuel oil, in a bid to break the market’s concentration. Companies will have to comply with import rules, including obtaining approval from the Central Bank of Sudan and depositing guarantees in gold, according to a ministry statement.

Sudan’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum opened competition on Monday 12 October 2026 to qualified national companies seeking to import Jet A1 aviation fuel and heavy fuel oil, Sudan Tribune reports.

The measure aims to end the monopoly on imports of these products and broaden participation in the Sudanese fuel market, according to the ministry.
