The State Trading Corporation is considering sourcing ration rice from India from November to reduce delays linked to shipments passing through Colombo. Available stocks stand at 1,900 tonnes, with several Pakistani deliveries expected, reports Defimedia.

The State Trading Corporation (STC), Mauritius’s state-owned supply company, is considering buying ration rice from India from early November to limit delivery delays from Colombo, Sri Lanka, Defimedia reports. Shipping delays had disrupted supplies and caused shortages in some shops.

Mauritius currently has 1,900 tonnes of ration rice, and distribution returned to normal on Monday 19 October, according to the outlet. Two shipments of 250 tonnes each, followed by two more of 500 tonnes each, are expected from Pakistan via Colombo by Thursday 29 October.

Sourcing from India would supplement these arrivals and aim to diversify the island’s supply sources.
