South Sudan Revenue Authority Commissioner General Rizig Dominic Samuel has promised to simplify customs procedures and reduce delays affecting freight forwarders and traders. Following a meeting with the South Sudan Freight Forwarders Association, he raised problems at entry points, notably Nimule and Juba International Airport, according to Eye Radio.

Rizig Dominic Samuel, commissioner general of the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA), has pledged to simplify customs procedures and reduce delays in clearing goods. He made the commitment on Tuesday at a meeting with a delegation led by Deng Daniel, president of the South Sudan Freight Forwarders Association, according to Eye Radio.

The discussions focused on difficulties at the Nimule border post, Juba International Airport and other entry points. The freight forwarders called for measures to speed up operations and facilitate legal trade. Samuel acknowledged that border delays and complex procedures increased costs for businesses.

The SSRA trains clearing agents in customs laws and procedures. The training is intended for officially registered and licensed agencies with physical offices at authorised entry points, to limit the activities of unlicensed intermediaries.

The commissioner general also stressed the need for accurate declarations and complete documentation. He asked the division responsible for customs control and enforcement to step up efforts against smuggling, illicit trade, irregular inspections and non-compliant transit movements, in order to protect public revenue and the country’s borders.
