A green turtle has laid eggs on Ghedhabna beach in Mahdia, confirming Tunisia’s second documented nesting case for the species after the 2019 case in Rejiche. The National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies, the Notre Grand Bleu association and residents are monitoring the site, according to Kapitalis.
The laying of a green turtle (Chelonia mydas) has been confirmed on Ghedhabna beach, in Tunisia’s Mahdia governorate. It is the second documented record of this species laying eggs in Tunisia, according to the Tunisian Sea Turtle Rescue Centre of the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies (INSTM).
The first case was observed in 2019 on Rejiche beach, also in Mahdia. The new discovery resulted from the work of the INSTM field team, supervised by researcher Olfa Chaieb, according to the marine turtle rescue centre.
