São Tomé and Príncipe: two camps claim leadership of next government
By the AFREEQUE newsroom, based on Telanon

In São Tomé and Príncipe, the MLSTP, which came first in the legislative elections with 24 of 55 seats, is claiming leadership of the next government and says it can secure a parliamentary majority with the support of the BASTA movement. The ADI and the MCI-PS/PUN coalition are also claiming power, backed by an agreement that gives them 29 MPs, according to Telanon.
The Movement for the Liberation of São Tomé and Príncipe (MLSTP), which came first in the legislative elections without an absolute majority, and the Independent Democratic Action (ADI) are each claiming leadership of the next government. The two camps presented their arguments to President Carlos Vila Nova during consultations with parties represented in the National Assembly, Telanon reports.
The MLSTP says it has sufficient parliamentary support to pass its programme, the state budget and the main guidelines of the national plan. The party told the head of state that it could form the 20th constitutional government through agreements with other parties, after calling for the formation of the next government.
