Two hundred and twenty primary and secondary schools in Kigali have begun teaching pupils the values of heroism, patriotism and cohesion. The campaign, launched on 15 October 2026, is also intended to prevent alcohol and drug use among young people, according to Rwaka Nicholas, head of research at CHENO.
Classes on civic values and patriotism began on 15 October 2026 in 220 primary and secondary schools in the districts of Kigali, Rwanda. The initiative aims to instil in pupils values associated with heroism and Rwandan culture, the Burundian news outlet Imvahonshya reports.
The National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CHENO), which is leading the campaign, says it wants to promote a culture of heroism among young people. It hopes in this way to help shape citizens who are committed to their country and Rwanda’s cultural values.
