Rwanda plans to increase its production and distribution of drinking water through several infrastructure projects, State Minister at the Ministry of Infrastructure Zingiro Armand told MPs. The projects include expanding the treatment plants at Nzove, Kanzenze and Karenge, as well as building the Nyabarongo II plant, reports Imvahonshya.
MPs called for measures to provide water to residents who still lack access and to limit shortages during the dry season. They also stressed the importance of high-quality project studies to ensure that the works meet the needs of the population.
Zingiro said increasing capacity must go hand in hand with better project management, monitoring of public contracts and stronger staff skills. Planned measures also include repairing and modernising treatment plants, and extending or replacing ageing pipes.
