Rwanda condemns DR Congo’s opposition to its Formula 1 Grand Prix

Rwanda accuses the Democratic Republic of the Congo of opposing its 10-year agreement to host Formula 1 from 2030. Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe also referred to corruption allegations against Félix Tshisekedi, according to Imvahonshya.

Rwanda has condemned the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s opposition to hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix on its territory, the Burundian media outlet Imvahonshya reported in an article published on 16 October 2026. Kigali accuses Kinshasa of being upset by the award, while the DRC is said to be ignoring accusations against President Félix Tshisekedi and members of his circle.

The outlet refers to accusations of corruption, illicit enrichment, money laundering and the looting of Congolese natural resources, which are said to have been transferred to Belgium. It also says that leaders, international organisations and citizens on several continents have expressed support for Rwanda hosting the race.
