The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra), Malawi’s telecommunications regulator, will have to pay 691.7 million kwacha to its former deputy director of finance, Elvin Mwapasa, following a ruling by the Industrial Relations Court. The sum covers compensation for unfair dismissal and a severance allowance, Mwnation reports.
In a separate case, the same court found that 16 other Macra employees had also been unfairly dismissed. A month earlier, the court’s acting president, Tamandani Nyimba, had ruled that the dismissal of Macra’s former director general, Daud Suleman, was unfair.
