Liberian Education Minister Jarso Maley Jallah has launched the Liberia Girls Can Code and AI Initiative 2026, which is to train 1,000 girls in coding, artificial intelligence and digital skills, according to Frontpageafricaonline. The first cohort will comprise 250 participants from five counties: Bong, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Lofa and Maryland. No previous programming experience will be required.
The training will also cover cybersecurity, innovation and entrepreneurship. It includes mentoring, internships and team projects designed to address real problems in communities. The Liberia Bank for Development and Investment has pledged to offer internships to participants who complete the programme, Jarso Maley Jallah said.
The minister presented the programme as a way to expand girls’ access to the digital transformation, particularly outside Monrovia. The project is being implemented with UN Women and other partners. It comes as Liberia has also recently launched digital training for teachers.
