In Luanda, trains cost less than taxis

By , based on Expansao

Map: Luanda, Angola

In Luanda, passengers pay 300 kwanzas per journey on suburban trains, compared with about 1,000 kwanzas by taxi between Viana and the city centre. Passengers interviewed by Expansão say the train allows them to significantly reduce their daily transport expenses, particularly for school journeys.

At Bungo railway station in Luanda, trains are attracting more passengers thanks to fares lower than those for taxis and car travel, Expansão reports. The station regularly offers four services: two suburban trains, an express train and a connection to António Agostinho Neto International Airport.

A suburban train ticket costs 300 kwanzas per journey. The express service between Viana and Bungo costs 800 kwanzas, with fewer stops and better comfort, according to Expansão.
