An explosion on a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation gas pipeline injured people and damaged several homes and businesses in Aleto, Rivers State, Nigeria. The company isolated the affected pipeline and is coordinating the response with petroleum authorities, security services and local emergency responders, according to the NNPC.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Nigeria’s state-owned oil company, has isolated the section of gas pipeline affected by an explosion in the community of Aleto, in the Eleme local government area of Rivers State. The explosion caused injuries and damaged several homes and businesses, according to the NNPC.

The pipeline is operated by NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited, a subsidiary specialising in gas infrastructure. The NNPC has activated emergency protocols and is working with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Nigeria’s oil and gas regulator, to prevent another leak or a worsening of the incident.
