The Dixinn Court of First Instance sentenced four officials from a nightclub in Kipé, Conakry, to a one-year suspended prison term and a fine of 500,000 Guinean francs each. Six other defendants were acquitted, while shisha equipment was confiscated, Africaguinée reports.
The Dixinn Court of First Instance on Tuesday 20 October 2026 sentenced four people to one year’s suspended imprisonment for offences involving shisha at a nightclub in Kipé, Conakry. Each of those convicted must also pay a fine of 500,000 Guinean francs, while the seized shisha equipment will be permanently confiscated, Africaguinée reports.
Six other defendants were acquitted because the offences were not established. The ten people had been arrested on the night of 16 to 17 October during a national gendarmerie operation at the 707 nightclub, in the commune of Ratoma. They were prosecuted for selling, distributing and consuming shisha in a prohibited venue, in violation of a Guinean decree of 5 January 2021 and the 2012 law on tobacco and its derivatives.
The verdict follows the sentencing on 6 October of four men to fines of 50,000 Guinean francs for shisha-related offences in Conakry. That earlier shisha conviction in Conakry also concerned the enforcement of Guinea’s ban.
