By the AFREEQUE newsroom, based on El Khabar
Spain’s King Felipe VI has made his first visit to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta since ascending the throne in 2014. He said Ceuta and Melilla were an integral part of Spain, following a mass migrant crossing that caused 141 deaths, according to El Khabar.
Spain’s King Felipe VI made his first visit on Tuesday 13 October 2026 to Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on the north coast of Africa, accompanied by Queen Letizia. He is due to visit Melilla, another Spanish enclave, on Wednesday, El Khabar reports.
During a meeting with representatives of Ceuta’s civil society, the king said that Ceuta and Melilla were an integral part of the political and national reality represented by Spain. He said Spanish sovereignty and territorial unity were not negotiable, according to the Spanish Royal Household.
The visit comes without any official Moroccan reaction reported by El Khabar. Felipe VI had never visited Ceuta since his accession to the throne in 2014.
