Denmark has finalised the purchase of long-range missiles from Norwegian manufacturer Kongsberg and US company Covenant, without revealing the number of weapons or the contract value. Deliveries and financial arrangements remain to be negotiated, Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus said, according to L’essentiel.

Denmark officially announced on Thursday 22 October the purchase of Norwegian Kongsberg strike missiles and American Anthem missiles, Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus said at a press conference. The Kongsberg missiles can be launched from Danish F-35 fighter jets, while the Anthem missiles can be fired from the ground.

Copenhagen announced in September 2025 its intention to acquire long-range precision weapons, citing the Russian threat. The Danish government aims to strengthen its own deterrence capability and that of NATO, the Atlantic alliance, Jeppe Bruus said.

Russia’s ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, criticised the purchase, telling AFP that these offensive weapons could threaten a nuclear power. The Danish minister replied that the situation was such that “no one can predict what will happen tomorrow”.

The announcement coincided with the signing of an agreement between Denmark and the United States aimed at strengthening their maritime cooperation, particularly in shipbuilding. The number of missiles, the purchase price and the delivery schedule were not made public.
