ChatGPT lets users lock conversations with a PIN

OpenAI is gradually rolling out a ChatGPT feature that lets users lock certain conversations with a four-digit PIN and hide them from lists and search results. The option is to be offered across the service’s different plans, but resetting the PIN will permanently delete protected conversations, the company warns.

OpenAI is rolling out a feature in ChatGPT that allows users to lock selected conversations with a four-digit PIN, the company announced. Locked exchanges are hidden from the usual history, pinned conversations and search results in the app.

The feature is intended to limit the accidental display of sensitive conversations when a user shares their screen or uses a shared device. It will be offered gradually across ChatGPT’s Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, according to OpenAI.

The company warns that resetting the PIN permanently deletes all locked conversations, along with information and files kept exclusively in them. OpenAI says its support service will not be able to restore the data after it has been deleted.
