Aldeias Infantis SOS Cabo Verde and the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA) have launched a national short-story competition on preventing sexual abuse of children. Applications are open from 21 October 2026 to 8 January 2027 as part of the Djunta Mom project, funded by the European Union in Cape Verde, Expresso das Ilhas reports.
The competition is open to secondary-school pupils aged 12 to 18 enrolled in Cape Verdean schools. Participants must send an original text in Portuguese of no more than 3,000 words to criancalivredeabuso@gmail.com, addressing issues including children’s rights, abuse prevention, reporting and victim protection.
The rules prohibit texts produced entirely by third parties or artificial-intelligence tools. They also prohibit identifying real victims, alleged perpetrators or third parties when the fiction is inspired by real events, according to the organisers.
The first prize is a laptop, the second a tablet and the third a mobile phone. Up to five honourable mentions may also be awarded, while schools that demonstrate strong participation may receive the “Child Protection Partner School” certificate, Expresso das Ilhas reports.
