Cameroon’s MRC plans to sue Times TV for defamation

The Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) says it intends to sue Times TV over remarks it considers defamatory, targeting Maurice Kamto, Olivier Bibou Nissack and Alain Fogué Tedom. In a statement dated 20 October 2026 and signed by Roger Justin Noah, the party also called for intervention by the National Communication Council and the justice system.

The Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) has announced that it intends to sue Times TV over remarks about several of its senior members. In a statement published on Tuesday 20 October 2026 and signed by Roger Justin Noah, deputy secretary-general and acting head of communications, the party also called for the intervention of the National Communication Council (CNC) and the justice system.

The MRC disputes remarks made in September by Serge Mathias Olama Oyebe on the programme “On marche sur la capitale”, particularly those targeting Maurice Kamto, the party’s former president, Olivier Bibou Nissack and Alain Fogué Tedom. The party also accuses the channel and its director, Francis Bonga Bertrand, of relaying the remarks without putting them in context. It denounced a new segment broadcast on 18 October on the programme “Débattons”, in which Parfait Ayissi interviewed Willy Mengue, whom the MRC says has been excluded from its ranks since June.

Roger Noah had already challenged Willy Mengue’s status as a party member on 14 September, asking the media to stop presenting him as an MRC member (his request to the media). The party elected Tiriane Balbine Noah as its president on 17 October (her election).
