Cameroonian minister Achille Bassilekin III met Neil Scotland, the UK’s forestry adviser, to discuss local timber processing, forestry SMEs and the sustainable use of resources. Talks included the SMEs Wood’s Park in Lomié, according to Journal du Cameroun.
Cameroon and the United Kingdom want to strengthen cooperation to process more timber locally and develop Cameroon’s small and medium-sized forestry businesses. Cameroon’s Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Achille Bassilekin III, discussed these priorities with Neil Scotland, the UK Foreign Office’s senior forestry adviser, according to Journal du Cameroun.
The discussions also covered upgrading equipment, technology transfer and mobilising financing suited to businesses in the sector. The cooperation is intended to support the responsible use of forest resources, which the Cameroonian government presents as a driver of growth and sustainable development.
The SMEs Wood’s Park project in Lomié, which aims to support SMEs, craftspeople and social economy organisations, was cited as an example of this approach. Its partnership agreement between Cameroon’s Ministry of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Lomié council was signed on 6 October 2026.
The initiative follows a series of Cameroonian economic and diplomatic efforts, including talks on financing the electricity sector with Citi on 29 September and consultations with the Central African Republic on security along the Douala-Bangui corridor on 20 October.
