The average price of a basket of 22 food products rose by 10.1% in informal markets and 4.1% in formal outlets in Angola between January and September. The informal-market basket increased from 124,892 to 137,478 kwanzas, according to Expansão, based on its surveys and National Institute of Statistics data.

Prices of several food products tracked by Expansão rose by an average of 10.1% in Angola’s informal markets between January and September 2026, compared with 4.1% in formal markets, the newspaper Expansão reports.

The rise in informal markets is mainly linked to seasonal factors, particularly for horse mackerel. Excluding this product, price growth in these markets would be limited to 1.4%. Meanwhile, annual inflation measured by the National Institute of Statistics has slowed for 25 consecutive months, while prices continue to rise, according to Expansão.
