Restoring the floodlights at Accra Sports Stadium could cost between 1.5 million and 2 million Ghanaian cedis, said Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, acting director-general of the National Sports Authority. Repairs may not be completed before the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia in November, according to his comments to Citi Sports.

Repairing the damaged floodlights at Accra Sports Stadium could cost between 1.5 million and 2 million Ghanaian cedis, Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, acting director-general of Ghana’s National Sports Authority, told Citi Sports. He said the work might not be completed before Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Somalia in November.

The storm that hit the stadium on 29 April severely damaged a lighting tower and affected other parts of the system. The repairs will require cranes, specialised equipment and work on metal structures, Osei Sarpong explained.

The official declined to guarantee that the venue would be ready on time, saying that lasting repairs should take priority over speed. Ghana is also considering having Essipong Stadium approved to host its match against Somalia.
