Three former leaders of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition, Timothy Mtambo, Gift Trapance and McDonald Sembereka, are seeking to have an arrest warrant cancelled in Malawi. The case concerns proceedings dropped by the state in 2020, but revived after allegations that they breached their bail conditions, reports Mwnation.

Three former leaders of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC), Timothy Mtambo, Gift Trapance and McDonald Sembereka, are seeking the cancellation of an arrest warrant before the Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Malawi. They say the state closed the case in October 2020, reports Mwnation.

The three activists were arrested in March 2020 for allegedly threatening to march to the presidential palace during protests against the results of the 2019 tripartite elections. The demonstrations, organised by the HRDC, targeted Jane Ansah, then chair of the Malawi Electoral Commission, among others. A hearing on their application is scheduled following a notice dated 13 October 2026.
