South Africa’s courts have upheld the confiscation of a Jaguar F-Pace valued at 990,539 rand, deemed an instrument of corruption linked to municipal contracts in Durban. Sandile Ncgobo’s widow challenged the decision, but three judges sitting in Pietermaritzburg dismissed her appeal, TimesLIVE reports.
South Africa’s courts have confiscated a Jaguar F-Pace SUV bought for about one million rand by Vuyiswa Venery Ngcobo, the wife of Sandile Ncgobo, who is accused in a corruption and fraud trial linked to municipal contracts in Durban. The vehicle was considered an instrument of crime, according to TimesLIVE.
The case concerns contracts worth 320 million rand awarded to Durban’s waste department. The Jaguar, declared a write-off after an accident, will ultimately bring the state only 450,000 rand in insurance compensation. Vuyiswa Venery Ngcobo contested the confiscation, arguing that her mother had given her the vehicle before her marriage, TimesLIVE reports.
