Statistics Sierra Leone plans to deploy them for the national population and housing census, its director of data science, Theophilus Blaudfaust, announced in Freetown.

Statistics Sierra Leone, the country’s national statistics institute, has reported an average score of 95.1% in the final examination of 122 master trainers preparing for the next national population and housing census, according to its director of data science, Theophilus Blaudfaust. The training took place in Freetown from 14 to 23 October 2026.

Participants took 878 tests, with a median score of 92.3% and an average pass threshold of 80%. The ten-day course included seven daily assessments and a test on data quality management. The highest overall score was 96.2 points, while 52 trainers averaged 83% in the specific data quality assessment.

The master trainers are now expected to pass on the procedures and knowledge they acquired to enumerators, area officers and supervisors in their districts, Deputy Government Statistician Lansana K. Kanneh said. The national census is due to use the tablets Sierra Leone received on 7 October.
