The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria is organising national days of prayer and fasting to promote free, credible and peaceful elections in 2027. Gatherings are planned for 31 October and 28 November, followed by 8 December in dioceses, according to a statement signed by Archbishop Matthew Ndagoso and Bishop Peter Odetoyinbo.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria has launched a national programme of prayer and fasting ahead of the 2027 general elections. The initiative, entitled “Let Justice and Peace Flow”, was announced in Abuja in a statement signed by its president, Archbishop Matthew Ndagoso, and secretary, Bishop Peter Odetoyinbo, Vanguard reports.
The bishops said the initiative was prompted by the risks of electoral violence, fraud, vote-buying and ethnic and religious divisions. They called on dioceses, parishes, prayer groups, families and the faithful to take part.
The programme is based on a verse from the biblical book of Amos, chapter 5, verse 24. The bishops said they wanted to contribute to free, fair, credible and peaceful elections.
