Nigeria’s Mining Marshals deny role in Minna miners’ deaths

Mining Marshals commander John Onoja Attah denies that his unit took part in the 16 September operation in Minna linked to miners’ deaths. He says the suspended Niger State commander could not deploy the officers, as a commission investigates the operation, according to the NSCDC.

The Mining Marshals, a specialised unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), did not take part in the 16 September operation at the M.I. Wushishi Housing Estate in Minna, where miners died, their deputy commander John Onoja Attah said, according to Daily Trust. He dismissed as false and misleading the allegations attributed to the suspended NSCDC commander in Niger State, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye.

John Onoja Attah argued that Suberu Siyaka Aniviye did not have the authority to deploy Mining Marshals officers. The operation is being investigated by a commission led by Justice Mohammed Mohammed, according to Daily Trust.
