Madagascar’s Ministry of Communication and Culture has honoured 20 evangelical artists for their contribution to culture and society. Eleven were made commanders and six others received a distinction, L’Express de Madagascar reports.
Madagascar’s Ministry of Communication and Culture awarded the honorary distinction for Arts, Letters and Culture to 20 evangelical artists in recognition of their cultural contribution. Eleven were made commanders, six officers and three knights of the Order, L’Express reports.
The distinction is reserved for artists with at least 10 years of professional activity. At the ceremony, Minister Gascar Fenosoa said evangelical songs contributed to solidarity, mutual trust and peace, and could comfort people who were discouraged.
The minister urged artists to produce works that had an impact on their audiences and to contribute to national renewal. He also said his ministry would remain open to artists and initiatives supporting cultural development.
The awards are part of a series of cultural recognitions in Madagascar. On 12 September, Roland Rakotondrainibe, known as Nônô, was made a Malagasy cultural commander.
