The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has ordered public universities to reopen by 16 October and resume classes by the following Monday at the latest. The university administrators’ association says the directive’s tone is unprofessional and warns it will not automatically end its strike, MyJoyOnline reports.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has ordered public universities to reopen by Friday 16 October and resume academic activities by the following Monday at the latest. The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has challenged the tone of the directive, which its president, Reverend Amoah Karikari, described as “unprofessional” in an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight programme, MyJoyOnline reports.
Amoah Karikari said GAUA did not oppose the resumption of activities at institutions under GTEC’s regulatory authority. However, he said the commission’s instruction would not automatically end the administrators’ strike and called for respect for the governance structures of public universities, according to MyJoyOnline.
