The human rights committee of Ghana’s Parliament is calling for an expedited prosecution of the head of a technical high school in Obuasi, who is accused of sexual abuse, and the maximum sentence if he is found guilty. The official has been suspended and a police investigation has begun, Theghanareport reports.
The human rights committee of Ghana’s Parliament condemned allegations of sexual abuse involving the head of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, a technical secondary school, and called for a speedy prosecution. It was responding to a Joy News investigation into the case in a statement dated 15 October 2026.
The committee said the alleged acts could violate articles 2 and 13 of Ghana’s Children’s Act of 1998, as well as article 34 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It welcomed the head’s removal and suspension by the Minister of Education and the Ghana Education Service, Theghanareport said.
