Five people, four men and one woman aged 21 to 33, were shot dead at a residence in Steenberg, Cape Town, and three others were injured. South African police suspect a link to gang violence and are searching for the shooters, according to spokesperson Novela Potelwa and the Western Cape anti-gang unit.

Five people, four men and one woman aged between 21 and 33, were shot dead on Saturday night in Steenberg, Cape Town, South Africa, and three others were injured. Western Cape police said the victims were in a residence on Blode Street at around 8pm when armed men entered and opened fire.

Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said the injured — one man and two women — had been taken to a medical facility. The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit is investigating the five murders and three attempted murders. Police believe the attack could be linked to gang violence; no arrests had been announced and a manhunt was under way.

The shooting comes a day after taxi-related shootings left four people dead in Cape Town on 24 October. The two incidents took place in Western Cape province, where the authorities have increased police vigilance in the areas concerned.
