Former Kenyan vice-president Rigathi Gachagua accuses President William Ruto of causing increases of 12 shillings for petrol and 9 shillings for diesel to fund political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election. He provides no evidence to support the accusations, reported by Capital FM.

Former Kenyan vice-president Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday accused President William Ruto of exploiting rising fuel prices to fund political support-buying ahead of the August 2027 general election. The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader claimed that William Ruto had ordered an increase of 12 Kenyan shillings per litre of petrol and 9 shillings per litre of diesel, according to Capital FM.

Rigathi Gachagua also accused the Kenyan president of facing growing public rejection because of abductions, alleged extrajudicial killings, corruption, policies considered ineffective and the rising cost of living. These accusations have intensified his attacks on the government’s economic management.
