Djibouti has reaffirmed its commitment to freedom of navigation in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a maritime passage linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The Djiboutian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said this in a statement published on Friday 11 September.

The position comes as tensions persist over maritime security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Djibouti is calling for the free movement of ships to be preserved in this corridor, which is essential to regional and international trade.
