South Africa’s Labour Court found fair the dismissal of a Gautrain driver who refused Covid-19 vaccination. Bombela Operating Company was entitled to enforce its mandatory vaccination policy after V Ravele failed to provide reasonable justification for his objection, according to IOL.
The Johannesburg Labour Court upheld the dismissal of V Ravele, a Gautrain driver who had refused to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Judge Reynaud Neil Daniels found that Bombela Operating Company, the train operator, was justified in dismissing him, according to IOL.
The court overturned an arbitration decision that had found the dismissal substantively and procedurally unfair. The decision had ordered Ravele’s reinstatement and the payment of six months’ back pay. The judge replaced the award with a decision declaring the dismissal fair, IOL reports.
