Coumba Bâ makes Sahel’s return her Francophonie priority

Mauritanian Coumba Bâ, a candidate for secretary-general of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, makes the return of Sahel countries to the organisation a priority and advocates a unifying approach. She says she has presented her vision in more than 40 of the 53 voting countries, according to France 24.

Mauritanian Coumba Bâ, adviser to President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani and a candidate for secretary-general of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, wants the return to constitutional order in Sahel countries to be a priority. She advocates a “unifying approach” and calls on La Francophonie to help states facing democratic ruptures, according to an interview with France 24.

Coumba Bâ says the organisation must remain committed to promoting democracy, the rule of law and civil liberties, without “closing the door to anyone”, according to France 24. She is competing against two other African candidates, including the incumbent secretary-general.
