Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Communication has reminded artists travelling abroad that they must inform the country’s diplomatic missions. The reminder, based on a 2025 text, comes after controversy surrounding Yamenya Youssouph, known as Issouf Manem-yam, and the cancellation of his concert scheduled for 17 October 2026 in Port-Bouët, Abidjan, according to La Nouvelle Tribune.

Burkinabè artists and cultural professionals travelling abroad for an activity must inform Burkina Faso’s diplomatic and consular missions in the country they are visiting. The requirement is set out in a text adopted in 2025, the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism says.

The process is intended to facilitate travel arrangements, promote Burkinabè culture abroad and help ensure artists’ safety, according to the ministry. The reminder comes as artist Yamenya Youssouph, known as Issouf Manem-yam, is at the centre of a controversy in Ivory Coast.
