Moroccan artist Amina Benbouchta is presenting the exhibition « Like Any Others » at OH Gallery in Dakar, bringing together paintings, sculptures, drawings, textiles and installations. Until 6 February 2027, her works explore Senegalese-Moroccan cultural heritage and historical ties, according to the exhibition presentation.
OH Gallery in Dakar will present « Like Any Others », a solo exhibition by Moroccan artist Amina Benbouchta dedicated to Senegalese-Moroccan heritage, from 30 October 2026 to 6 February 2027. The exhibition will bring together paintings, sculptures, drawings, textiles and installations, according to Senegalese daily Le Soleil.
Organised in three sections — « Immersion », « Threshold » and « Contemplation » — the exhibition explores passages between inside and outside, the feminine and the masculine, and confinement and individual freedom. Haja Fanta, who wrote the exhibition text, places the notion of the threshold at the centre of the artist's approach, as a space of passage and transformation.
Born in Casablanca in 1963 to a French mother and a Moroccan father linked to Senegal, Benbouchta uses her family history as the starting point for a reflection on colonial legacies and exchanges between North and West Africa. Diplomatic relations between Senegal and Morocco date back to 1960. Trans-Saharan trade and the journeys of Senegalese pilgrims and scholars to Fez, linked to the Tijaniyya brotherhood, had nevertheless preceded their establishment.
